Alcohol Rehab: Stepping Stone to Recovery

Spread the love

Many alcoholics take the leap of faith and go to alcohol rehab. Taking a plane to another city or state to stay at a rehab where everything is unknown can cause the person fear and anxiety. In the May 25, 2012 edition of the Sun Sentinel an article was published about Shelby Carroll, a woman struggling with alcohol addiction. Her fear and anxiety about entering an alcohol rehab were so great that she decided to have a few drinks to take off the edge; however, she overdid it. A Transportation Security Administration (TSA) spokesperson reported that the alcoholic woman caused a scene during the flight and the problems escalated once the plane had landed. The woman was too intoxicated to walk and was forced to sit in a wheelchair causing the woman to injure an airline employee. It was clear that Carroll’s actions were a direct result from her alcohol consumption and she is now facing criminal charges. The irony of this story is that she was on her way to rehab. It is common for addicts to fear rehab. Alcohol becomes the crutch that the alcoholic uses to get through life and the thought of going through detox and abstaining from alcohol can cause great stress and fear. The reality is that alcohol is single-handedly destroying the alcoholic’s life. Alcohol addiction can cause problems with family, friends, work, finances, health, and legal problems. For Carroll, these problems are evident and her decision to go to alcohol rehab could help her turn her life around. At Stepping Stone Center for Recovery, we understand the fear and anxiety of attending alcohol rehab but believe it is the best way to get your life turned around if you are struggling with alcohol addiction.
