Drug Drop Off in Florida

Spread the love

Need to get rid of your prescription drugs in Florida? Having old prescription drugs lying around is not a good idea. Old drugs can become a temptation for those in recovery or even for teenagers who live in your house because they have easy access to experimentation. Using expired medication can do more harm because the medication may degrade over time. Nationwide, the Drug Enforcement Administration is sponsoring another drug disposal day on Saturday, April 27, 2013. You can find sites for drug disposal everywhere on the DEA website. Florida is also participating in drug disposal. Don’t use household plumbing to get rid of medications because this pollutes water and affects wildlife. Tavares, Florida, has established a Don’t Flush campaign to help protect local wildlife and the water supply. Don’t have time to go to a disposal site? Many local stores have partnered with the DEA to provide a more convenient drug drop-off.  CVS, Rite Aid, Winn Dixie, Walgreens, and Sweetbay Supermarket drug stores are participating sites. They sell a prepaid envelope that can be used to send certain drugs in for disposal. If you are in Florida and unable to get to a location or a store to mail your old prescription drugs, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection also offers instructions on how to dispose of your medication safely at home.
