Fall into Change

Fall Season change
Try a Change This Season and Get Help in Rehab
September marks the beginning of the fall season. If you’re lucky enough to live in a place where you get all four seasons, you will see the leaves change colors and it will get cooler. What you may not have known is that September is National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month. This month is a time of recognizing the need for change, of not giving up even after disappointments and to think about today and what you are going to do in the here and now. You may have experienced a lot of hardships and pain while in active addiction, but you are still here to live another day. There is a lot of fear and uncertainty when deciding to seek treatment, but the promise of a new life is something that is hard to pass up. It is true that recovery is filled with highs and lows but having a chance to live free of drugs and alcohol makes the obstacles seem worthwhile. You lose a lot due to addiction, but recovery is about celebrating and working toward the things that are still there and regaining things you may have lost. I bring you a quote from automotive pioneer William Durant that seems appropriate for this month: “Forget past mistakes. Forget failures. Forget everything except what you’re going to do now – and then do it.” Recovery is about today and taking action today. What have you done today in your recovery?
