The Joyful Sound of Support and Recovery

Support in Recovery
Accepting the reality that alcohol and drugs have taken over and your life is unmanageable is a frightening experience. Even more frightening is asking for help and going to an unknown place and relying on the kindness of strangers to get better. But the situation gets easier when you have people in your life who support your decision to get clean and sober. Cory Monteith, star of the hit show “Glee,” can agree with that. Cory Monteith checked into rehab which was surely a difficult decision.

The Road to Recovery

Monteith, 30, wasn’t always a successful actor and singer on a popular show. He opened up in a 2011 interview about his rocky past with substance abuse. After his family and friends staged an intervention, he went to rehab for the first time at age 19. He fell back into his substance abuse habit soon after completing treatment. However, with a little tough love from his family, he got clean and sober. This past March he voluntarily checked himself into substance abuse rehab and successfully completed treatment just last week. He was seen at the Los Angeles International Airport with his girlfriend and fellow cast mate, Lea Michele.

Love and Support Make All the Difference

Getting the help you need requires you to be honest with yourself, but it’s difficult to admit you have a substance abuse problem. Having people who support and encourage you makes a big difference in your recovery. Monteith has been fortunate enough to have family and friends and now his girlfriend to help him through his recovery.
