Labor Day Weekend: Kiss Your Summer Goodbye

Spread the love

Labor Day weekend is the official end to summer and it is right around the corner. For this last celebration of summer fun, many people will grill one last time and share food and drinks with friends and family.  However, for some, their celebration may end in jail or worse. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), almost 900 people were killed in drunk-driving crashes during Labor Day weekend in the past 5 years. To address this major problem, NHTSA is sponsoring “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” from August 24 through September 3 (Labor Day). Stepped-up law enforcement and sobriety checkpoints on the roadways should help prevent senseless deaths and injuries due to drunk driving. People caught drinking and driving may face a suspended license, a slew of fines and attorney’s fees, and even jail time. There is a lot at stake when drinking and driving: You risk your life and the lives of others. Do you have trouble drinking responsibly? Have you ever driven under the influence? If so, then you may have a problem with alcohol. It’s time to celebrate the end of the summer, not mourn a tragedy. What are your safe alternatives for Labor Day weekend?
