Staten Island, New York music legend DJ Megatron was murdered on Sunday, March 27, 2011. DJ Megatron whose real name was Corey McGriff was best known for being a radio and television personality. McGriff did a lot of work within his community and will forever be known for always being positive, upbeat and making time to spend time with any one of his fans. Just recently one of McGriff’s friends spoke with police to inform them that he was on the phone with the legendary DJ right before he was murdered and that the DJ was on his way to buy some marijuana in the early morning hours. Just because McGriff used marijuana doesn’t mean that he suffered from addiction. In fact, it is probably safe to say that he wasn’t. If anything positive could come out of such a senseless murder it’s that drugs, whether it is marijuana, cocaine, heroin or anything else, can put an individual in an uncompromising situation that could cause a life. Too many lives are ended short as a result of addiction whether it be from an overdose, driving a vehicle while under the influence, domestic violence… DJ Megatron will forever be remembered as a master of his craft and an individual who loved his family, children and gave back to his community. He was not someone who suffered from addiction but he was someone who was going to get drugs and ended up being caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. Hopefully, the fond memories that his family and friends have of him will help them get through this very trying time.
