Substituting Drugs To Support Addiction

At this point it is no secret that prescription drug abuse is an epidemic throughout the country. In the state of Florida even though the local and federal authorities are doing the best they can to shut down pill mills and pain clinics throughout the state the number of people who struggle with the disease of addiction has not diminished by much. Many who were addicted to prescription drugs like Oxycontin and Percocet and are now unable to easily get them to support their habit are turning to other drugs to support their addiction. One of the most common drugs that suffering opiate addicts that used to use Oxycontin and Percocet are using as an alternative is heroin. Not only is heroin a very dangerous drug to use but the situations that people put themselves in to get the drug can be very compromising to ones well being. When a suffering addict is craving a drug they will stop at nothing to get their hands on something that will make them feel better. For people addicted to prescription opiates heroin commonly becomes the dangerous and possibly deadly alternative. Oxycontin, Percocet and other similar pharmaceuticals contain the same ingredient that gets a person “high” as heroin does. Even though it is necessary for authorities to put their best foot forward when it comes to fighting the problem with prescription drugs it is just as necessary for people struggling with prescription drug addiction to seek out professional help so they can live free of chemical dependency. Addiction left untreated will leave a person substituting one drug for another if they cannot get their hands on their drug of choice.
